The sizable, verdant Henry Bacon ballfield, which sits smack next to the Lincoln Memorial on its northeast, will be the site of the 2022 July 4th Lincoln Memorial Assembly. The field, named after the architect of the Memorial, is also adjacent to Constitution Avenue and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
It is an ideal setting for a patriotic celebration of the Fourth of July, a place to throw down a picnic blanket and listen to some serious rhetoric from serious people concerned with human and civil rights, interspersed with some good live music and good food.
Human and civil rights organizations will set up tents and tables and hold their own informational and organizational subevents.
And when the afternoon’s speeches and music are over, the field is a great, very close-up spot to view the renowned Fourth of July early evening fireworks on the Mall.
The July 4th Assembly will be entirely peaceful and law-abiding, as the Hacra Association strictly adheres to the tenets of nonviolence espoused by Martin Luther KIng, Mohandas Gandhi, Leo Tolstoy, and others.
The Henry Bacon ballfield is federal land, and the July 4th Assembly will meet under the auspices of a National Park Service public gathering permit. Peace marshals will patrol the proceedings and any serious mischief will be quickly countered by National Park and Washington, DC police.
Please come to the National Mall on the 4th and enjoy the speeches, music, and fireworks.
